What if the most dangerous place in Rome wasn’t the battlefield, but the Senate floor?

He had conquered territories, defeated powerful rivals, and risen to become the most influential man in Rome.

But the greatest threat to Julius Caesar wasn’t waiting beyond the borders of his empire.

It was waiting inside the Senate.

On March 15, 44 BC, a group of Roman senators gathered around Caesar with a plan to assassinate him. Among them were men he had trusted, political allies who had fought beside him, and individuals who believed his growing power threatened the future of the Roman Republic.

The warnings had come before the attack. A soothsayer had famously cautioned him to beware the Ides of March. According to ancient accounts, his wife Calpurnia also experienced disturbing dreams and urged him not to attend the Senate meeting.

Caesar went anyway.

What followed became one of the most infamous political assassinations in history. Surrounded by conspirators, he was attacked with daggers and suffered multiple stab wounds. The familiar story of his final words, including the legendary “Et tu, Brute?”, has been immortalized in literature, though the exact words he spoke remain uncertain.

He fell near a statue of Pompey, the rival he had defeated in a civil war.

But killing Caesar didn’t save the Republic.

Instead, his assassination triggered another wave of political violence and civil war. The struggle for power eventually led to the rise of Octavian, later known as Augustus, and the beginning of the Roman Empire.

This project transforms one of history’s most consequential betrayals into a cinematic documentary-style motion graphics experience.

Through ancient Roman imagery, historical illustrations, dramatic typography, political symbolism, layered compositions, and tension-driven transitions, the animation builds toward the assassination before revealing its consequences.

The story begins with a warning, unfolds through betrayal, and ends with the collapse of a political order that had endured for centuries.

One man was killed in the name of saving a republic.

But his death helped bring that republic to an end.

Project Concept:

Rome had survived wars, political rivalries, and powerful enemies.

But on the Ides of March, its most influential leader was killed by men who claimed they were defending the Republic.

Julius Caesar’s assassination was meant to stop one man from holding too much power.

Instead, it unleashed another struggle for control, weakened the old political order, and helped pave the way for an empire.

The tragedy wasn’t simply that Caesar was betrayed.

It was that the attempt to save the Republic helped bring about its transformation into something entirely different.

Sixty conspirators. A handful of daggers. One turning point in history.

The Republic would never be the same.
